Jelly Green : Conflagration ii
Past exhibition
Press release
Incubator is proud to present Conflagration II, a compelling new body of work by Jelly Green that engages with the urgent and unfolding crisis of forest destruction. Green’s paintings channel the sublime grandeur of the natural world, depicting primordial canopies and verdant thickets rendered with reverence and intricacy. Yet, these vibrant landscapes are abruptly confronted by searing eruptions of flame — the furious assault of wildfire, consuming and transforming.
In Conflagration II, Green’s brushwork captures the precarious balance between life and annihilation, light and darkness, creation and obliteration. Her work resonates with elemental intensity, each stroke a testament to the fierce beauty and vulnerability of the forest. Fire, here, is both a force of awe and terror, highlighting nature’s power and fragility. It is a reminder of our shared responsibility in a world teetering on the brink.
This exhibition arrives in a period of sobering revelation: 2024 is on track to become the hottest year recorded, with temperatures crossing the critical 1.5°C threshold set by the Paris Agreement. Green’s paintings are both a lament and a call to action, as the human-driven climate crisis escalates, pushing ecosystems past their capacity to recover. As the world faces an era of irreversible change, Conflagration II challenges viewers to confront the relentless impacts of environmental neglect.
Green’s work, steeped in immediacy and relevance, invites us to witness — and perhaps to protect — what remains. Each canvas becomes a site of confrontation, urging us to consider our place in the fragile network of life, as we stand before a world ablaze.
