Elena Angelini
Elena Angelini (b. Rome, Italy) is a painter based in London. A graduate of Camberwell College of Arts, where she completed a BA in Fine Art Painting with First Class Honours in 2023, Angelini has developed a distinct visual language characterised by muted colours and a nervous pencil line that remains evident throughout her practice.
Angelini’s paintings depict symbolic scenarios and unresolved narratives, where faded objects and figures emerge from misty, undefined backgrounds. The lack of completion within her canvases guides the viewer’s focus to the figures themselves, whose postures, glances, and expressions convey a quiet struggle to overcome melancholia.
Her work explores the tension between the individual and the outer world, capturing an unspoken turmoil within the grey space between naïve play and mundane consciousness.
In 2024, Angelini presented her debut solo exhibition, Playing Sacred, at Incubator. Recent group exhibitions include Mind to Hand at Incubator, Tales Dancing in the Memory at Twighlight Contemporary, Ladies First and Animals First at Studio Geddes Franchetti, and Sad Girl Summer at Sapore di Mare Festival. In 2024, she also participated in the La Vallonea residency in Capalbio, Italy, and was longlisted for the Jackson's Art Prize.
