Biography

Pía Ortuño is a Costa Rican artist living and working in London. Her practice engages with materiality and tradition, drawing from classical techniques in marble and bronze to explore themes of transformation and permanence.


She graduated with a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Costa Rica (2019) before moving to Pietrasanta, Italy, where she studied ancient sculptural techniques and apprenticed under Jiménez Deredia in his Carrara studio. She later worked at the Fonderia Artistica Mariani (2020). In 2021, she co-founded Sala Salon, an artist-led space, and in 2022, she completed her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art.


Her recent solo exhibitions include Down to the Roots at Cadogan Gallery, Milan (2025), The Day of His Wrath at Duarte Sequeira, Braga (2024), and A Blue Fire at Incubator Gallery, London (2022). Selected group exhibitions include Across the Pond at Eric Firestone Gallery, New York (2024), Matter at Flowers Gallery, London (2023), New Ancients at Guts Gallery, Milan (2023), and Books and Things at Helen J. Gallery, Los Angeles (2022).
